I've already cancelled my account, and putting the domain under my control.
All the details of the domain are under my name.:think:0 -
I can't see anything that indicates theres any monthly charges for the Basic sign-up. I've signed up and got a domain name registered on the basis that it was free but some of the comments seem to indicate the possibility of there being some cost attached.
I've gone through all the T&C's and there don't seem to be any strings attached in terms of being charged (the service itself is obvoiusly a cutdown version of "Essentials" or "Premium" services:

Am I missing something ?!?

The domain itself is paid up for two years, the basic service is free during the Beta period (dunno what happens at the end).:think:0

You can also get a dot com from yahoo for $1.99 for 1 year. you can immediately point the dns settings to any hosting acc you want.
renewals will be more, but handy if starting a new business or website and trying to keep costs down initially.0 -

Not sure about this one. Would probably be fine if you don't want to move it but the following is in the faq:
Your domain name will be registered with Melbourne IT, our domain name registrar, with you as the registrant (owner). If you cancel the Office Live service, you maintain full control of your domain name through the Web site of Melbourne IT. However, you cannot transfer your domain name to another registrar for 60 days after signing up with Office Live. Note that once you cancel your Microsoft Office Live subscription, you are responsible for paying the annual registration fee for the domain name.
The last sentence is the iffy one. Can't determine whether you would be liable for the part year that you cancelled in. I just started registering a .co.uk address at Melbourne IT and it came up as $150AUS = £60!
Edit: Actually that seems to be for 2 years and in US dollars and is for registration. Can't find how much renewal would be.0 -

Just noticed on the website that they now state that Office Live Basics is "free during and after beta" www.officelive.co.ukLucifer68 wrote:Looks good, I am half way through signing up for the basic package, but is it free only during the beta period, & then they will start charging us?0 -
www.namecheap.com are good - $8.88 per .com .net .org etc.
That worked out as £4.65 on my credit card bill this month. They allow webforwarding and up to 50 forwarded email addresses for free!
Not cheap for .uk domains which I'd suggest www.1and1.co.uk who aren't quite as generous with email address but still good.0
