Any point applying for the same job again?

I've noticed this a few times now when scouring the job vacancies in fine detail, You apply for a job don't even get an interview you get a rejection email or letter, then a month or so later the same job advertised again, if your rejected the first time is there any point applying the second time around?

I would have thought it depends on the job and why you think you didn't get an interview. If it's a job where it was likely there would be a lot of applicants then it could be that the first time round your application didn't make the interview stage simply because they could only interview 10 people and they had 200 applications.

Do you meet all of the essential criteria and some of the desirable criteria? Is there a comment on the application requesting previous applicants do not apply?

If it's a job I wanted, I met the criteria and there was no 'previous applicants need not apply' I would apply for it. The worse that can happen is you get turned down again.

Definitely worth reapplying. DH applied twice to the company he works at. Been there over 10 years now.

  • Nothing to lose by reapplying, though I'd give the application or CV a major tweak as it clearly didn't stand out as what they were looking for before.
  • It's happened to me before, but I'll give you my sister's example. She first applied for a job with Historic Scotland in 2009, she was rejected at the application stage and end up at a different tourist attraction. In 2010 she tried again, this time she was rejected at the interview stage [although she was put on the list. She went off to work at a different tourist destination, one that has connections with HS, and took some Scottish History classes at the local uni. She re-applied in January and was offered the job.

She knew what she wanted, she just needed a bit on tenacity.

I've applied for the same jobs again - just try and think what you can do to change your application or cv a bit - have you based it around the specific criteria for the role. I got a job a few years ago on the second time of applying and one of the best jobs I've ever had (and consequently a lot of interest when it came up!) so definately worth doing.

I'd be wondering why the job was being re-advertised so often.........

When I started my last job, there was one chap who started the same day and did the inductions with me. 2 weeks later after constant !!!!!! from his manager, he was an emotional wreck and handed his notice in.

    phone them up and ask?

I applied for a job recently. As part of the advert, the person left his name and contact number. I was the only person out of 20-ish CVs (I called him on the last day) whom called.

It is 3+ weeks on, and due to hearing nothing I called again. The job requests have not been read, annual leave and the financial year starts tomorrow too - someone jumped the gun.
