Chinese takeaway prices go up all the time.
They probably thought people might b!tch at them less if they linked it to the VAT increase.
How wrong they were!!! :rotfl:0 -
Only 20p?
Think yourself lucky...
I ordered a takeaway this evening from a place that I have not ordered from for about three months, I thought the total sounded a bit high for the usual 6 dishes but I wasn't the one paying........
It arrived with a new menu and a quick check against the old one shows an increase of about 80 to 90p per dish.0 -
My usual Chinese takeaway has stopped giving prawn crackers :-(Best Regards

Mine has opted for not so good fortune cookies.
"You will inherit a lot of money soon". Sounds nice, but when you analyse it, it translates to "one of your loved ones is going to die".0 -

Most of the raw ingredients for Chinese/Asian food has increased massively over the last 18 months. Rice I think was about £25 a bag and increased to around £40. Chicken fillets has almost doubled. The spices have increased even more. Most owners are finding that they can't increase their prices, those that do are probably tacking them on the back of the VAT increase. The man without a signature.0 -
chips are also getting. expensive, they are now
£1. 50 at my local chippy0 -
I went into my local "chinese" take-away to grab a bag of chips after work. (I hate calling these places "chinese" since there's nothing chinese about their food, other than the chinese person cooking it).
I noticed a big notice on the window saying everything on their menu has increased by 20p to reflect the 20% VAT change.. but it suddenly clicked that they'd only need to increase it by 2.5%.
It makes me angry that any company is allowed to sneakily use the VAT increase as an excuse to increase prices, needless to say I walked out of the chinese and used the one right next door to them and saved 30p in the process.
Fair enough if they must increase prices but don't blooming try and disguise it as part of the VAT increase.
So even though you saw the big notice on the window you still claim they sneakily introduced this price increase.."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
My local Chinese has started charging £2.25 extra for fried rice with a main course, it only used to be 80p extra.
As for free prawn crackers they stopped sending them after I made the Are those prawn crackers or just a little daft joke to the delivery driverHe must have heard it 1000's of times before and has started banning people who've made the joke from getting them
