How do I make clay that hardens so that my kids can paint it???

How do I make modeling clay so that it hardens in oven so that my boys can then paint/decorate it.

    homemade playdough and cook it but use plain flour not self raising!!! lol

    Thanks ...So I make ordinary play dough then put in oven. How long for & what temperature???

    i never actually got round to doing it but the plan was for the kids to make xmas decorations like snowmen and stuff. i though a low heat and keep checking it. sorry i cant be of more help.
