refund advice please

My husband recently orderd an accurist charmed watch from Paul Gentiles. It was a birthday gift. He asked for the pretty in pink watch and the sales assistant speicial orederd it. However when I opened it it was the wrong one even though the reciept says pretty in pink. We then went back and they said they would order the proper item, only to have a phone call saying it will take untill 2nd week of april to come, and did we still want to order it. We then went to the shop and said no because we can get it that day elsewhere but he said we could not have a refund just because we have changed our mind. The point is it that they orderd the wrong item so therefore it didn't match the description on the reciept. But he just dismissed us saying we would have to order the other one and wait. I then said I will take this further and left the shop.
I was really dissapointed on my birthday to have the wrong one and now I have to wait another 3 weeks. Surely this can't be right?

Not much to add to what Halibut has contributed. The watch was not as described.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
