Garage probblems

My friend said he'd get my car serviced for me so I gave him £200 but when the car came back the service book was not stamped and the car still had some problems. Infact it started smoking from the engine and AA checked it and said it didn't have any water/oil etc. This was only after 1 week. I may add that my friend didn't get an invoice of what was done as I paid for some parts as well.
When I contacted the garage the owner said that he serviced it but becaue I didn't take the car there myself, he needed my friend to contact him. My friend was already annoyed with the owner and told me that he would refund the £200 so I don't bother him again. This happened in Oct 06 and I'm still waiting for him to give me this cash. His last e-mail said the 15th Nov...
What can I do? I spoke to Trading Standards and they said I needed to return the car to the garage but as said 'no money was exchange of money took place between me and him' although he says my car was there.
How can I get the money from my friend? Can I sue him?

Who on earth gives their car and £200 to a 'friend' on the basis that he will get at serviced by some third party? A car with no oil or water would be completely undriveable, it clearly couldnt have been returned in that state and take 7 days of drving before the problem was evident."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
