Hi all, I have a question if any one can help, our Megane, when starting needs either the clutch or brake to be pressed, I have always used the clutch but the last week it's stopped working. Does any one know if there's a sensor on the clutch that I can change. The last thing I need is for the brake sensor to fail....

There's nowt I can find in the Haynes manual and I really cant afford to take it to the dealer right now...

TIA Paul.

    Hi Paul,

Recognise the need to tap clutch or brake before start, as I have driven a few Merc buses with this feature.

There are a number of sensors present within the ignition system on these particular vehicles.
It is my understanding that your problem was and is a common fault with early meganes.

Me personally, I would always start with the source and work backwards for example,
The cluth pedal obviously has a switch or connector attached to whats been described as a "Small or short wire".
Sometimes the wire snaps or the connector can come off literally.

Peeps assume their entire system has packed up and garages take advantage of this.

I purchased a few years ago, a workshop manual on CD that covered an array of different vehicle types.
If you are interested and serious, PM me and give me the specs of your vehicle for example, make, model, engine cc, man or auto etc and I will have a look for you and give you what I can find.

    Hope this helps.

    Back to the OP though...

Yes the Meganbe does have a clutch pedal switch. Its located around the pedal box and quiet easy to get to.

There is definitely a clutch switch as harveybobbles says - my Laguna had this same system and the clutch switch also interracts with the cruise control system if fitted.

    Megane Clutch Switch

Not sure if this is the correct one for your car but you could always ring this company. I haven't used them myself just googled the requirement!

There is a small sensor that fails under the clutch pedal, its quite easy to remove and replace. My OH removed mine with the intention of me going to renaults to get a new one. Unfortunately the car was written off before I could do so. If you are going to go and have a poke about in the car, it looks like a small solid green fuse - about the size of a lego square, just flatter. You could also check out the megane owners forum, there is loads about it on there. Its quite a common issue.
