New cat mummy with few questions

I adopted a gorgeous 18 month old cat at the weekend, renamed him oscar, from owners that decided they no longer wanted him.
He's a gorgeous boy, and so so friendly, that I have no idea why they don't want him.
I do have a few questions though.
Firstly, he miaows loads!! Is this because he's new and not settled yet, doesn't really seem to be aimed at me. He'll go into the bathroom and start miaowing for example, he's mostly quiet when he's in the same room. Except for at night and he wakes me up quite often by miaowing.
I've only ever had two very quiet cats in the past, so it seems unsual that this new boy is so noisy!!
Secondly, I've been giving him felix pouches, two a day, plus biscuits at night. Until I read on here that it wasn't a very food quality food. So I bought him hi life pouches but he won't eat them. So I dot know wether to keep him on felix which isn't very healthy or what? I don't want him to be hungry!!

If you want to switch his food, I'd start by slowly mixing his old food together with the new food. Gradually increasing the amount of new and decreasing the old food. It'll also help stop any tummy upsets he might get if you switch it to quickly!

As for the meowing, unless hes off food and unwell, i wouldnt be too concerned. My cats meow at everything! Even a blank wall! Some just like to chat mor than others.

If it continues, it might be that hes bored and you can try playing more games with him. I think its possibly down to him being unsettled at the minute and he'll calm down with time.
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
