Boiler/Central Heating - Routine Maintanence or Fault

Hi All
We have Homeserve insurance for our central heating and there was a fault last month and they replaced the gas valve, it went again last week and an engineer attended on Friday and said there was magnetic build up in the pipes causing it to overheat and turn off. He said there would not be a problem and it will need a flush somrtime this week.
I received a call yesterday to say the work would not be authorised as is it is maintanence.
Does this sound right to youz? Any advice, opinions etc gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

He could be right if there is a restriction in the pipework meaning return flow is slow thus leading to an overheat situation but the boiler stat would kick in ewarlier and shut it down. Would I be right in thinking you have a conventional F&E tank in your roofspace? Off the top of my head and I'm half asleep I can think of no immediate reason why a magnetite buildup would cause the gas valve to go t..s up.Hi All

You cannot clear a magnetite buildup with any form of flush. The affected pipework has to be cut out and replaced. He said there would not be a problem and it will need a flush somrtime this week.
No - see above.Does this sound right to youz? Any advice, opinions etc gratefully received.

You are correct - post be rollocks. Want to see a pic of magnetite buildup in pipework? Heres one:anotherbaldrick wrote: »a magnetic build up on the pipes ?? what rollocks
I've seen a magnetite build up reduce a 22mm pipe bore to a pin hole - and its as solid as a rock too!

I would doubt that any maintenance contract with any provider would cover you for this.
All they will cover is component breakdown, so, as rare as it is, I would have to agree with Homeserve. (Can't believe I've just said that!)0 -
but a flush is usless and why say it ?why didnt the engineer investigate the first blown valve reason:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0
