    £300 Removals company

Is this accurate - We are moving from a 3 bed to a 4 bed a mile down the road and I had budgeted £1500. Its the one area of moving I havent looked at and would appreciate any feedback to how much a move would cost for them to pack everything as well.

    Cheers,
Depends who you use. If you go for a national chain like Pickfords and get them to do the packing for you, then the cost could easily exceed a grand. If you pack your stuff up yourself, and find a local company to move you the mile down the road, then £300 is more than realistic.

Phone round for more competetive solicitors charges. I've just purchased & it cost me £550 + disbursements, searches, etc and I'm in the South East. To sell at same time should only cost about double...

You should be able to cut the costs BUT dont use an online solicitor - people generally advise that is asking for problems

Really? I had looked at using RMNJ Conveyancing Solicitors in Birkenhead and we have been unable to find 1 bad review of them. With most people saying they are excellent.

I have looked at others and found the odd (or lots!) of bad reviews but I thought RMNJ would be ok?

I've used local solicitors before and I had a REALLY bad experience with one of them :( and they are not cheap around here as I live in a small town.

    Anyone heard of RMNJ?

If you're only moving locally then a van and some diesel should set up back less than £100. Add on £20 for a pack of beer and tea bags for your mates and jobs a goodun :)

The solicitors need a blank cheque book though ;)

Yes this is an actual quote, £250 including Vat of £50 (£300)

We are moving from a 2/3 bed terrace within the same postcode. This does not include packing, but they estimated that would be another £150-250.

The firm came recommended from two different sources and are fully insured.

They are called Easymove and based in the Warrington/Cheshire area.

We've been quoted £1250 to move 150 miles, we have a 3 bed house and a very full garage, with them doing the packing, so your quote sounds about right!

try to steer away from pickfords etc - they will charge you a fortune. I live in sussex & last move we used a local removal firm called Durrants who were excellent - had one of those huge lorries with the side opening as well as the back.

we didnt have to unpack drawers & the day before an old boy turned up and wrapped all the delicate stuff properly. We were charged a third of the price that Pickfords quoted & the move went without a hitch.

Also, we decided to use a solicitor who was approved etc etc but through the internet - turns out she was based in Southend. She was great - I didnt see her face to face, but I probably spoke to her in more detail than I had spoken to the local solicitor last time around. Again, this saved us a lot off the bill.

Also, have you negotiated with the estate agent? This week alone I have had 3 fliers posted through my door - 2 of which were "hand posted", which suggests these guys are desperate for business & will discount if you agree to sole agent for say 12 weeks...
