Staybrite and Anglian Windows are a pain in the backside

...... two days running reps from both these companies have knocked on my door, despite the fact that we have a sign clearly displayed near the door bell that we do not buy from anyone calling at the door so don't bother knocking. However, underneath there is a note saying if you are on official business, please show your ID card.

so guess what? Both reps claimed, when challenged as to why they had knocked on my door, that they were not selling, they were on official business so the notice did not apply to them!!!!! One even claimed that they had been given permission by the local council which is a complete crock as our council do not give permission for door to door sales.

What the f.....? Of course they are selling - more to the point, there are quite a number of elderly people near us with these signs on their doors. These idiots are knocking on their doors claiming they are on official business - that is very wrong, using tactics like that to get people to open the door to them. Official business applies to meter readings, police, government officials etc.

Staybrite are probably the only DG firm that door knock around here. Or were as it must be over a year since they last visited.

Both these clowns are responsible for harassing my elderly mother on a regular basis. She too has a sign saying no sellers, its frequently ignored and add to that the number of telephone calls she receives from them, despite being on the no cold calling register (sorry cant remember what its called). They annoy me so much but when I complain they put the phone down on me. Arrogant prats, I wouldnt buy from these people if they were the last window companies on earth

technichally though they are not selling, they are just making appointments for free quotations, they don't do any selling themselves

they don't need permission, door to door canvassing is perfectly legal

if i were them i wouldn't know what was meant by 'official business' thats not specific atall

Of course they are sellling and what's more they know full well they are selling. So, unless they are as thick as the glass they are trying to flog they are making false claims in order to get people to open their doors to them.

I would say most people I know understand what constitutes being on "official business". I spoke to trading standards and they are taking it up with them as they said they categorically should not be doing this.

The Staybrite guys who doorknocked a couple of years ago were only making appointments for the salesmen to visit. So not directly selling, but clearly "paving the way" for someone else to sell.
