Postal delivery times

Been waiting for an item I bought from eBay to arrive - on Monday I asked the seller if it had been sent, she replied by giving me the tracking number and telling me that an attempt at delivery had been made on Saturday and a card left.

Now, I was up at 8.15 on Saturday and although I left the house at 12 my OH was in and anyway, the postman came at about 11 (with another item I was waiting for) and there was no card left. When I checked the RM website it says the attempted delivery was made "before 06.10 am"!

Is it normal for a delivery to be attempted this early? Chances are I would have woken up if someone had knocked at this time but I can't say for sure. There was no card anyway so I suspect some fibbing somewhere, but is there a kind of earliest delivery time, so if I am expecting something I should be awake from, say, 6 am?

If it gives you reassurance then by all means wait up from 6am. But it's your personal choice. I'm not really sure what you're seeking advice on ?

I can't imagine that many people would be happy about a parcel being delivered before 6.10am. I'd be surprised if that time was correct. Custardy will let you know whether they do start that early.

I want to know what time they start deliveries, I'm not getting up at 6 if they don't start their rounds until 8!

If someone knocks on the door, wake up and get out of bed, answer the door. If nobody knocks on the door, don't. Alternatively go to sorting office and collect item.

The sorting office is miles from my house, which is why I've arranged a redelivery. And I don't know how I am supposed to just wake up if someone knocks at the door - it depends how heavily I am sleeping!

I am normally awake by 7 but 6 is pushing it a bit for a weekend.
  • If I'm expecting a parcel I normally put a little note by the doorbell, I address it to whichever courier it's due to come with so they know it's not a random generic note and put something like:

"Parcelforce - I am in so if no reply to doorbell please knock loudly. Thanks"

It definitely works for me as I had the misfortune to time my shower with a delivery once and I heard the door being thumped despite the bathroom being at the back of the house and having a powershower raining down on my head! :D

Well now I know you're just bored. What a thing to complain about for goodness sakes!! You don't know when to answer the door??!!? There are things I could put next, but it would get removed! :rotfl:

The way I read it, the OP wasn't complaining or asking when she should answer the door, more wondering what time deliveries start.
A pretty reasonable ask considering the RM website stated that a delivery had been attempted before 0610, if this had been the case she had slept through them knocking or ringing.
Maybe you should read the post properly.
