So, we would like to wait for the mortgage approval before starting the survey/conveyancing etc.
How do you complete a mortgage application without completing the solicitor's details section?

As we've said, giving your solicitor's details to the agent is what triggers the written confirmation you want them to send out. It doesn't trigger your solicitor doing anything, it allows the vendor's solicitor to start the contract preparation.

Estate agents may have dubious practices, but on this occasion you are stopping them from doing what you are criticising them for not doing! ;)

withholding solicitor details from the EA is your odd behaviour, IMO, not theirs.

We still do not have mortgage approval. If the approval doesn't come through, we have to withdraw our offer.
As soon as they have full details to put on a memorandum of sale, which should include sols details, I'm sure the EA will send it out. I'm not trying to be rude, but the EA knows the process better than you do; you're questioning perfectly normal behaviour.
I apologise if I was questioning, I just wanted to know whether our asking the EA about the letter of offer acceptance is right or wrong?

You can see why the EA want a bit more commitment than an AIP. As you have shown, the one you had was not worth the paper it was written on.

Yes, the bank went back on its word, what do we do?

We have entered the solicitor firm's details in the mortgage application, not the particular lawyer's name.

Ah. Sorry. I misread. I thought you hadn't decided on a firm yet.

I understand where you're coming from. You don't want to tell the agent you've changed lender in case it starts the alarm bells ringing? If I were you, I'd just give them the name of the solicitors and the name of your lender and sit back while your mortgage is being processed.

Your current action is more likely to draw attention to your situation, not away from it.

How are you going to get your mortgage approved without having a survey carried out?

You do realise that you need a solicitor to act for the lender in terms of the mortgage application, don't you?

If I was selling & didn't have sol's details & a suvery booked 2 weeks after accepting an offer, I'd be wondering if my buyers were actually serious.
