Setting up Blackberry - help please

Hi all,
Yesterday I bought my DS a Blackberry curve (unlocked). I then went and got the Tesco blackberry sim. The phone is working but we cannot get blackberry messenger to work. We have contacted tesco to get them to activate it and registered on the blackberry website. My DS has tried to add contacts but all it says is pending. Has anybody any ideas as to what we must have missed in order to get it to work? For example would DS have to set up a blackberry email for messenger to work? I am not very tech savvy and have trawled the internet for answers but have become more confused than anything else :o Any help or suggestions would be very gratefully received....

  • Have you tried getting your son to give someone his code and they requesting him as a messenger contact ? Or maybe uninstall and reinstall the software ?
    Hope he gets it sorted

You need to make sure BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) is active. Speak to your network operator it may not be on by default. Plus the iPhone is far better, sell it on eBay and get one! ;-)

Wow what a speedy reply :) Yes my son has both sent requests to his friends and his friends have requested him all to no avail. All he has under the contacts is "pending". It is probably something silly we havent done but it is driving me/us crazy...
He has taken the phone to school but when he comes home i will get him to uninstall and try that.

Thaks for the reply Ryan. We have contacted tesco and they have said that they have activated the blackberry side. They told him to make a paying call to someones phone and then the messenger would kick in. We did that but still no BBM.
I would have loved to get an iphone for him but don't have enough pennies lol

I am not convinced that the iPhone is far better than a BB.
