Ok that sounds like possibly then there was an error in connection with the figures your employer submitted in connection with your (and everyone else's ) income tax and earnings figures, and the error triggered off some incorrect tax calculations on a HMRC computer somewhere and that's what happened. Mistakes happen.
If I was you I would just not cash the cheque and that's it then.Indecision is the key to flexibility

I've received similar letters of tax refund, but I wonder if this will affect my jobseeker allowance!!!?
