Please see the email communications I've so far had with this company at the end of this msg.

I've heard nothing yet after almost 4 weeks but I'm in the forewarned is forearmed frame of mind.

I've had this amplifier repaired by the same company a couple of years ago, it took a few weeks and got stung for a bill of £350ish.

Why did I go back to them again? Can't answer that only to say it's the only company I know of that can do it.

But as you can see from the email I sent I expressly ask them for a QUOTE to ASSESS for repair.

What do I do if they contact me and advise they have carried out the work and the cost?

Many thanks.

Email below:

Thanks Mike,
I would have preferred it if you could have provided that information when you offered to accept it, however I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Mr T Coombe.

Hello,
I am sorry to hear you are having problems with this unit again.
You can certainly send for repair we have allocated job number 18517 to the repair.

Best regards

Hi guys,
Please can I send this unit to you to assess for repair?
You repaired it for me about 2 years ago (still has your service stickers on it) and after working for around 6 months the same fault appeared again. (Some sort of safety cut out kicks in as soon as switched on).
Since then I have had it stored.
You said last time it took a while to get hold of a wiring diagram for it, hopefully you still have it but even if not I have found the original user manual and it has one on the back cover.
If you can supply a job number or order ref I get it sent off to you.
Regards,
Mr T Coombe.

Why are you asking here? Why not send them another email saying "Just to confirm what I said before, I am looking for a quote", seeing as you seem to believe that they will carry out repairs without permission.

Rule #1 - Cover your own back.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Sorry - but I had to read it twice to even see where you expressly requested an assessment (Still cannot see the word QUOTE ?).

I would follow the advice given by halibut and send another email very clearly outlining that you want a QUOTE and not a repair at this stage.

You asked if you could send it in for an assessment for repair, but he replied back saying you can send it in for a repair, and then you sent it off, so looks like it's going for a repair! Why didn't you reply back to him saying "No, I only want a quote...".

If you do try and not pay he'll probably undo his work, make it broken again and send it back to you (after you pay his postage of course).
