Moving later in the year - worried about credit checks

Hi All
I plan on selling up later in the year to rent with my partner. I'm worried that a prospective landlord will decline my application as I now have a default on my credit file due to my ex partner pressurising me into signing as 2nd customer on a rather large personal loan last year, disappearing with the money and now not making the monthly payments. I hasten to add I refuse to pay this loan and have sought legal advice too 'undue influence', but it's not looking good as to coming to a reasonable resolution. I have heavy debts myself which I am paying over the odds for each month and am up to date and have a clear credit score until now. Is this going to hamper me when it comes to renting a property?? Has anybody else experienced ex partners stitching them up in such a way??

Unfortunately there are some bad people in the world, and I'm sorry you got stitched up.
You have a number of options open to you, which depends on your situation at the time of your move.
You could be open with the LL/LA, explain your situation and see how it goes. Some LL/LA are more flexible than others.
You could rent in your partners name only (assuming they would meet the credit criteria for the property your interested in).
You could get a guarantor to reduce the LL risk.
You could offer to pre-pay the initial AST period.
It all depends on your situation at the time you want to move, but these are your basic options. If it's not adding up, compound it!0 -
Thanks Grogged that puts my mind at rest a little knowing I have options. As you can imagine this has had a massive impact on my life, my car is falling to bits and I can't even obtain credit to buy a new one. Some people want stringing up!!0
