Notice Period

Hi all,

I'm currently renting but have started to look at buying a house. I've just renewed my original 6 month contract for another 6 months. It doesn't say anywhere about the notice period I would have to give, does this mean I have to stay where I am for another 5 months or is there a staturatory period?

I'm not trying to get out of anything if I have commitments and I'll phone the letting agent to get a definate response but they usually take a fair while to get back to you!

Cheers,
Andy

Unless your new Fixed Term has a mutual break clause in it, you are obliged to pay rent for the full further 6 months. Y

our LL may however agree to you going early if you offer to pay the reasonable costs involved in getting a new acceptable T in place and continue to pay the rent until the new T can move in. If LL does agree always get that agreement in writing.

That really sums it up! If you are thinking of moving, commiting yourself to 6 months was a bit rash. Far better to have moved to a monthly periodic tenancy. However, it's done now.
As tbs says, you can leave earlier if your LL agrees, and most reasonable LLs will agree if you offer to pay their associated costs.
