Scrapping car in North Wales

Hi Folks

Friend's car broke down as he was driving to North Wales for a week end break. Break-down firm attended but could not get it started so transported the car to the holiday destination.

The car has been giving a lot of trouble lately so the owner wants to scrap it and get a new car.

His problem is how to move his vehicle from its present location (near Rhyl) to the nearest scrap yard or vehicle dismantlers?

Assuming he cannot get the car going; and the nearest scrappie is some way away; what are his likely options?

Any one been in this situation before?

Ignoring the stupid comments above, there are a number of scrapyards/dismantlers along the coast road. There's one at queensferry which is big, a couple at Bagillt and there may be some closer to Rhyl. You could phone them for quotes- they'd give you less for a car if they have to pick it up, but that would be the easiest way out. Alternative would be to get a car transporter firm such as Belgrano (near Abergele) to pick the car up for you and deliver to a scrappy, but I doubt that would be a better bet.

Thanks folks. The "helpful" comments were exactly what I was hoping for. Cambrian seems the best option, if they will collect. Otherwise I will try the others. If no luck I will contact Belgrano; they are just a couple of miles away.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Again Folks

Just to let you know that the problem (thanks to your help) has been sorted. We contacted cambrian autospares of Rhyl and they were very helpful. They collected the car and gave some cash for it.

Many thanks to scotsman4th and pwllbwdr
