Ahh, so that is what ~4 x the average annual salary buys you.

Just thought about your comments. You are correct. Down my neck of the woods, £25k is a great sum of money. Yet you would need that and more to buy our place. Got a fair old bit of savings, should have stuck it in property.

Was thinking about a mate who I will call tomorrow. Worked with him in the 80`s. Very hard worker. Now lost his job, £70k on the mortgage, 3 lads, and his wife is at home. Not enjoying all this boom and bust.

It's funny, being out in Aus has bought into sharp focus just how ridiculous the housing issue has become in the UK. Massive prices for places you can literally touch every wall nearly at the same time.

The space out here is amazing, side roads in little towns are as wide as motorways back in the UK. Houses have huge areas around them, along with the fact nearly all are unique in their shape and size. The UK really does seem like a third world country when you look from this perspective. Shoeboxes, massive debts, 2 people slavishly working all hours to put the tiniest roof over their heads, while their children are brought up by a stranger in a nursery.

Why do people do it ? I have no idea. Seriously if I was a young person today, with these kind of prospects, I would study to degree level then emmigrate.

Millions of people must be stuck so far in a rut that it's taken on the appearance of normal life. The golden age has gone where one person in a family can work if they wish to have anything other than the most desperate of existances.

One wonders where we realy do go from here.
Have owned outright since Sept 2009, however I'm of the firm belief that high prices are a cancer on society, they have sucked money out of the economy, handing it to banks who've squandered it.

But as always Ad, you need to remember that most people don't think as pessimistically as you. ;)

    A mere £95,000.

Cheap at twice the price. :)

Even at that price, most potential buyers would find it a squeeze.

I bet it will be cheap to heat though, a ten pack of lighters from poundland might last you the year.

My old house was only 10ft wide. It's a 2 bed terraced cottage, built in 1850. The plot widened very slightly towards the back, meaning the garage (at back of plot on to alley) was wider than the house.
I didn't realise the luxury I was living in, that I could lay sideways in my own home.

I suspect the uniqueness of it is what bumps the price up.
