Santander took early payments

I have a Paypal credit card which is via Santander cards. I pay the payments via direct debit via my Santander (Alliance and leicester) bank account.
Several days before the end of January, Santander took February`s payment from my bank account. I thought this was an error, but did not question it.
Several days before the end of February, Santander took the March payment. On this occasion, there was insufficient funds in my account as I get paid on the 1st of every month, and have done since having this account.
Santander paid the payment to themselves and charged me £30 for the priviledge of overdrawing my account for one day.
Surely this is a bank scam, trying to raise funds for themselves!
has anyone had a similar experience.?
I have had the credit card account for several years and this is the first time this has happened.

On this occasion, for some reason, I did not look at the due date. I had no cause to as the payment has never been taken the previous month....ever!0

Hi
Same thing happend to me, payment came out a day early in Jan and also feb. I was lucky because the jan statement one was to come out on 1st of feb but debited on 31st of jan same day as my wage is paid. I was not charged as my wage was paid in before the paypal card was charged. On the statement it says: Total monthly payment to be taken by direct debit no earlier than 01/02/2011.
I have since phoned paypal call centre and they insisted "the payment comes out around that date, a day or two does not matter!!!". Not happy with the customer service, I have now written to the santander Paypal Customer complaints in Leeds and spoke to paypal with regard to the sham that the customer services are!!!0 -
I assume that this is all done by direct debit?
What about invoking the Direct Debit guarentee?Signaller, author, father, carer.0 -

Sounds like the way forward to me. If the payment was taken earlier than they stated on the card statement then it breaches DD conditions, end of story. A day or two most certainly does matter, regardless of what any CSA may say.
Santander cards have a history of incompetence when it comes to setting up and collecting DDs.0
