Please make sure though that you are actually killing Harlequins. Native Ladybugs are quite easy to confuse
http://www.harlequin-survey.org/recognition_and_distinction.htm
Also this website is asking people to report them when they see them so they can track their population0 -
More native ladybirds have been killed by humans thinking they were killing harlequins than the initial problem posed by harlequins.
Doh!
If you have them indoors, then yes there might be an issue - but if there are only a few then just brush them up and put them outside. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
When it comes to getting rid of bugs, then ant powder should do the trick. Make sure it's the right ones that you're killing off though....0

as this has dropped down the OS board, ive moved it to Greenfingers as Im pretty sure there's an existing ladybird thread over here

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I used to have lots of ladybirds inside in spring - they find a crack to hibernate in over winter and then when it warms up some of them come out the wrong way, into the house rather than outside.
Are you absolutely certain they are harlequins? did you have the dark ones too? The ones I had were the normal 7 spot native ones. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.
