Waste collection

Hi

I know someone posted here earlier an alternative waste collection company to PHS (sick to the back teeth of them and their sudden extra charges) but I can't find anything on a search.

Anyone got any recommendations for the KEnt area?

Thank you
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

We moved from PHS to Biffa about 2 years ago and so far so good. We have an enclosed skip (12 Yard) we phone up when we want it emptied and although they more often than not turn up a day or so later than arranged its cheap....

You can contact Biffa on 0800 601 601

I have just cancelled my contract with Biffa.
They are increasing their charges again for April 1st.
Be aware that Biffa will charge you a yearly EPA fee of £80.00 +Vat on top of your waste disposal.
I have gone back to our local borough council trade waste dept.
Cheaper / local & their EPA fee is £20 + VAT.

I use my local council. They are efficient, collect my waste when they collect the neighbouring houses and cheaper than Biffa.

All waste companies use the 1st April as their price rise date, as that is when the target year runs to and from. Generally Biffa, if they collect from your area, will be the cheapest. (I used to work in the waste management business)

Nope Biffa are not the cheapest in my area.
    Facts.....
They are £1.51 more expensive on a 360 litre bin empty than the local council.
They are £60.00 more expensive for the EPA charge.
Biffa are therefore NOT the cheapest........in my area.

Sorry to be off topic- Snowman2, tried to PM you but says "not allowed", any idea why the discount pet care thread has vanished?

How much waste do you generate and at what sort of volume? I use a skip bag at £40 a time drop off/collection. Usually have one every 2 months as I do not generate a huge amount of waste but I'd still not put it in the normal bin and there is no contract, they collect drop off when I call them so if not much waste I am not tied to a weekly collection.

Your best bet is to phone around a number of contractors and find out which one can offer you the best solution for your needs. There are huge variations in what companies charge and how they charge it.

Netregs provide a lot of info http://www.netregs.gov.uk/

Watch out for additional charges - some contractors will charge you an 'admin fee' to store your waste transfer notes - I'm sure you can find a suitable filing cabinet where you can store your own for the required amount of time. Save £120 per year!
