Oxygen Sensors/Cat

I can back up Ti on this.
Some years ago I had this code thrown up on a Hyundai. Took it to a main dealer (SG Petch, good bunch they are); they charged £35 to read the code off, and when they got back to me they advised that they'd looked the system over and found a tiny crack in the exhaust pipe near the cat (front flexi IIRC). A further £60 replaced the offending pipe, and I was on my way.
Can't complain at that. Kwik Fit et al would probably have wanted £100 for the exhaust part, and that would have been a pattern part.0 -
Absolutely! They are far from miracle workers, especially when they only get the dregs from 'other' garages that have tried to diagnose a fault unsuccesfully and the dealer gets the butchered car with plugs hanging off after trying a few things but forgetting which plug went on which sensor! The dealer is always expected to sort it out with their miracle machines then though...Main dealers aren't miracle workers you know.

Now who's being stereotypical? You sure don't like 'other' garages do you? And you haven't answered my question... after speaking to 2 main dealer service managers, why did neither try and tell me how more in-depth their fault diagnosis system is?0 -
I'm saying that just because a few people have a bad experience at a dealer or independant, you do not need to tar them all with the same brush. Jase1 says he had a great experience, so must we all like them again now?! I have worked in the motor trade for nearly 20 years, and know LOTS of owners of independant garages, but would still not trust them with my car when I can use a dealer and dealer parts. Now who's being stereotypical? I have seen PLENTY of cars that have everywhere else before admitting that a dealer is the best bet to get an issue fixed, and invariably they've managed it, despite the previous attempts made by the independants (with wires loose, sensors unplugged etc).
I've been both sides of the fence (Dealer and 'other'), and IMHO there is no comparison between dealer service/quality and independant. Some indy's come close when they've worked at dealers before and use OE parts, but they don't have the current knowledge or equipment to look after customers like a Dealer.
I have no idea why the Toyota dealers have not extoled the virtues of their diagnostics machines? Maybe they assume customers know?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Are you a bored parts guy at a main dealers by any chance?
You'll notice from my first reply that I use main dealers myself, but I'm not going to bully people into using one. It's personal choice. I'm not tarring anyone with any brush. It was you who started defending dealers for no reason. I just want to get this error code fixed! If I thought paying a dealer would work then I'd do it.0 -

My point was about the potential saving of time and mis-diagnosis made by independants, but the refusal to try.horizon81 wrote:You'll notice from my first reply that I use main dealers myself, but I'm not going to bully people into using one.
