going on holiday whilst on the sick

Surely if he can go to the cinema, a gig, a holiday in Florida, while being off sick for "agoraphobia" , he is well enough for work?
Is it just me that see's a issue here?

maybe if my husband was off for agrophobia .. then maybe there may a case to answer here (although tbh i am not sure there would be).... but my husband is off for sever depression anxiety and stress ... his agrophobia is only part of the issue ... and even at that he is trying to deal with his issue ... he couldnt leave the house for a while but slowly he is trying to normalise himself again ...and that for him involves going to the places that we bought tickets for before xmas ... he struggled with both nights and we left kinda early and he was a bit of a mess but he managed it and i am proud of him for even trying0 -
That is a very defensive answer to what appears to be a genuine question!
Yes, of course someone with agoraphobia needs to be exposed to social situations as part of their rehab, but a lengthy period on a plane would not be part of such a process. The point of gradual exposure is that you can remove yourself from the situation if you need to, which clearly would not be the case here.
OP, when are you going away?
we have a few weeks before we go still (roughly six) were hoping to slowly increase his exposure to people situations in the meant time ... but (and i may be being cruel here )... as soon as i noticed he wouldnt go out i made him ... even if it was to the back garden to do a bit of work or the local nature park ... just a wee bit at a time for him to get used to it ... the weekend there was the most he has been out with others since he became not well and although it was stressful for him he did good...
he finds when things get too much for him he needs to go and lie down and take some time to himself ... he has his safe place to go to .... he also does meditation which he feels benefits him highly...he says it feels like he is almost sensory sensitive if that makes any sense?0 -
Personally I don't think it should make it void, but it would be better to ask them than risk it, IMO.
Also, he might need to get confirmation that he is not travelling against medical advice.
Had he booked this leave from work before he went sick?
I'm only just back at work after a long spell out, and I'd had to cancel a holiday at the start of my sick leave. I knew I was getting close to being ready to go back, so I re-booked my leave and said that I'd take it as leave, whether or not I was back at work. In the event I'd started working from home (with a suitably worded Fit Note) for 3 weeks before we went, and then I was back in the office after that.
yes he booked the annual leave last december ... he doesnt mind using the holidays ... he isnt looking to go on holiday and not use his annual leave it's just more the whole sick leave annual leave situation that we arnt sure of
i will give the insurance a phone closer to the time i think and let them know of his medication ... and the situation if it hasnt changed by then0 -
I think that it is acceptable to go on holiday, especially if your GP agrees it will speed up your recovery and the employer is kept in the loop. Depends on the longtime illnesses etc.Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 20160

when my husband did mention the holiday to the dr the dr said he thought it would be a good thing for us to do ... the situation is much more involved than what i have informed people on here of to save alot of confusion etc ...
his main fears regarding going on the holiday ( not the whole work situation) are .. driving, crowds at the parks, the plane (although he does actually love planes and driving normally) i think it has been eased slightly by the fact we are staying at a villa so we can have that place to retreat to ... thankfully having been there before if we dont stay long at the parks or if he isnt well enough to go to a park one day then it isnt a big deal... we can spend the day chilling by our pool away from the world .. atleast that is the plan0 -
How can someone go on holiday with agoraphobia?hi wonder if anyone can help me ....
very quick run down of the situation .... we booked a holiday to Florida last year after being burgled and generally having a very hard time ( son had been attacked by a gang as well etc) .. since we booked things within our family situation changed culminating in my husband having a mental breakdown... he is on antidepressants and has been signed off of work for the last two months ...
he went to the drs again today ( he goes fortnightly so the dr can keep an eye on him) and he feels the dr is going to give him another sick line ... truth is hubby isnt fully recovered yet .. he still has panic attacks, aggrophobia and severe pains in his head ( just to mention a few things)
anyway .. we go on holiday shortly and i am not aware if he is legally allowed to go on holiday whilst on the sick from work ... does anyone know?
also can he tell the dr he has to go back to work if he isnt ?Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

I take it you didnt bother reading the rest ... Not gonna waste any more of my time explaining myself0

I would definitely inform the employer as well. Far better to hear the proper version from you rather than chinese whispers from other people - "Oh, so and so's gone on holiday to Florida while being signed off sick"....that sort of thing.0

Very valid point .... Were not trying to hide anything more wondering what the situation would be if husband was still on the sick when holiday comes around .... He goes back to the dr again in two weeks .... Hopefully he will be much better by then .... He has recovered well so far ... But it is one day at a time just now and he has a long long way to till he fully recovers ( if ever) part of the recovery process will be going back to work ( hopefully before our holiday)0
