Kia 7 year warranty

I’ve just taken my Ceed to my local KIA dealer as my washer jets stopped working.
I thought it was the washer pump and this would be covered by the much publicised Kia 7 year warranty.
On my arrival at the garage, the “customer service” salesman stated to me that he had seen this loads of times before and the washer pump filter was clogged with “gunge” and this will need to be unclogged. He then said to me that this would not be covered by the warranty as it was a serviceable part.
I didn’t really know what to think but I allowed them to look at my car.
I waited about 1 and a half hours in the waiting room to then be told that the filter was blocked and it had been cleaned and I would therefore would be charged £45 for this.
At this point the mechanic who was working on my car walked past, I asked him what would cause such a blockage as I only used pre mixed screen wash and this should not block any filters.
He said that he had in fact removed the filter and thrown it away as it was not needed and this would be cheaper than putting a new washer pump on. I said that I would have preferred him to put a new washer pump on as this would have been covered by the warranty he told me that he had been told that I was paying for the work so that’s why he did not do this.
As much as I tried to argue my point they were not having it and I had to pay the £45. Surely this is a design flaw from kia that the washer pump filter gets clogged up so much and the mechanics are removing them (and charging you for this!) so that the washer jets work properly.
I was not happy about being charged for this, does anyone else have any experience with this and is it right that they charge for removing a filter (and throwing it away!) to make the original part work?

Filter's get clogged that's the point of them they are supposed to filter out the muck then they get cleaned or changed. The washer fluid you used may have been too strong try mixing it with a bit more water. You could have chosen to clean it yourself but you have paid someone £45 to do it for you.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

I think you have missed the point mate.
They removed the filter off a unit and threw it away, they didnt replace it or clean it they threw it away as you can not replace or clean it.0 -
...I didn’t really know what to think but I allowed them to look at my car.
Did you specify that they were just to look at the car and give a quote or did you say "yes, do the work"?I waited about 1 and a half hours in the waiting room to then be told that the filter was blocked and it had been cleaned and I would therefore would be charged £45 for this.
So you were told it had been cleaned...At this point the mechanic who was working on my car walked past, I asked him what would cause such a blockage as I only used pre mixed screen wash and this should not block any filters. He said that he had in fact removed the filter and thrown it away as it was not needed and this would be cheaper than putting a new washer pump on.
But now you had been told it had simply been removed...As much as I tried to argue my point they were not having it and I had to pay the £45.
What does the receipt show - removal and supply - or just removal ?
Personally, if it were me and I had not specifically requested that it be removed (i.e. simply asked them to take a look and let me know the price BEFORE doing any work) I would have asked them to return the car to me in the condition it was brought in (e.g. replace the filter)... they threw it away as you can not replace or clean it.
Why can you not replace it ? Surely just because the engineer says "it's not needed" doesn't mean that it can'y be replaced. And besides, if it's not needed then why do Kia fit them in the first place??
PS: £45 for 1.5 hrs work isn't that bad in a garage IMO“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -

I did not know what to do in this situation thats why I am asking for helpWhy can you not replace it ? Surely just because the engineer says "it's not needed" doesn't mean that it can'y be replaced. No I didnt say yes do the work he said if it was the filter it would be chargable
Bit late now, but maybe at this point you should have stated if it was the filter then do nothing without your approval.
One to chalk up to experience I think ( and go to another garage in future )Why should I replace the full unit that if needed replacing would have been done under the warranty? You can not buy a filter on its own for the unit it is sealed.
Didn't mean the pump - I meant the filter.
So the filter is an integral part of the pump ? How was it removed by the engineer ?
Usually filters are in-line so that they can be easily cleaned and are external to the pumps?“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0
