Too many applications?

in Credit cards
Last month, I applied for a Tesco credit card but was rejected. I checked my files and everything was fine (apart from the electoral roll, which I have since updated). I sent a letter asking them to reconsider, but they replied saying my reconsideration had been rejected.
This is where the confusion kicks in.
I phoned Halifax today to enquire about their Clarity card, and the woman put through an application, which came back rejected too. The woman then proceeded to put through an application for a Student Credit Card, which I'm waiting to find out about (I'm a PhD student).
My question is this: since there have been three applications in the past month, two of which came back as rejected, does that make me look 'desperate'? I'm really not, and only wanted a card to boost my credit score. What should I do now? Wait for six months before attempting anything else, or get an easy-to-get card?
Thanks.

Yep, three in one month will do you no good at all.....you need to wait a few months and then start with an easy to get card."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0

Thanks. I take it I stand no chance of getting the Student one either?0

You may still get the student card, however it will have a very small credit limit.0
