hi guys,
recently (like most people) we have been going over our overdraft and being charged (suprise suprise)
we have 3 accounts alltogether one for me, one for partner and a joint one which we pay into to pay mortgage etc.
yesterday my partner received a letter to say they attempted to move £100 from his account into the joint account but they did not as it would of resulted him going over his overdraft.....BUT then are charging him £10 a day as if the money had been taken out! can they do this?
any advice is very much appreciated as am completly confused about all these bank charges!
thank you xx

im with lloyds tsb we have not asked yet why we have been charged was just seeking advice as im really not an expert with banks...but was looking through the site earlier on about reclaiming charges etc. started to look through my partners statements and ive come across that they have charged him £75 for beeing over his overdraft when he hadnt at that time!
is itsomething as simple as phone call or is it strong worded letter time?
thanks for taking the time for replying! xx0 -

I think you need to call them and ask the bank what the charges are for exactly. It could be that the charges are related to something which has happened previously.Best Regards

You need to first understand why the bank considers it appropriate to charge you what they have (even if you don't agree with the reasons they provide)
That can usually be achieved by something as simple as a phone call.
Only when you have that information can you have a chance of disputing it. If you need further advice after you know why they charged you, then post here with reasons why you think it may be inappropriate
If you are being charged £10 per day, it would suggest you have an unplanned overdraft in excess of £25 (but even then you should not get more than 8 of these per monthly billing period)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Most people do not go overdrawn. It is a minority that do and an even smaller minority that breach their agreements..BUT then are charging him £10 a day as if the money had been taken out! can they do this?
They charge if in excess of the agreed limit. So, is the account over its limit?
Banks will usually refund charges on a first error if you ask nicely.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Why wait til the morning?
There's no time like the present, strike while the iron's hot, etc.
For personal banking customers, their phone support is open 24/7

thanks guys! got it all sorted and refunded! they charged £75 for an unplanned over draft that had happend months (and months) before! apparently the bank can waive 1 charge a year on your account with no arguments ...so thats all cleared up!
thanks again guys much appreciated x0
