MBNA rejecting payment

in Credit cards
I tried to pay my bill from my Santander account before the payment date. I gave them MBNA's account code, sort code and the credit card number as reference. I later found out that I was charged £12 overdue fee. MBNA had rejected the payment saying they did not receive the credit card no. and they cannot accept payments if they can't allocate them. I told them that gave Santander all the details and that my payment was not overdue, MBNA chose to reject the payment. They offered to reduce the charge to £6 but I still don't agree with this. I tried once more to pay from Santander, double checking account code, sort code and credit card no. Again it was rejected. Eventually, I got it paid from the MBNA website but I am now wary of paying from the bank as MBNA don't seem get all the details.
Do you have any advice/experience on this? Thanks in advance.

Just another blunder from Santander. Dump them."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0
