I doubt two people are going to have any trouble finding space for their luggage in a Charger. I also doubt that the softer suspension of the US versions is likely to be a problem either.

Many people have pointed out that petrol is a lot cheaper in the US. However, it should be borne in mind that everywhere is much further away. It's swings and roundabouts.

I'd go for the Charger... or more likely a convertible if the time of year is right.

Could you get insurance on the charger? I seem to remember reading they work on a points system and having a UK
licence will bring you close to the limit for some high powered cars. Is that for private cars only though?

You want the full insurance package, Sue you for anything lol.

A 3.5l V6 Dodge Charger is 250bhp, which isn't really that much for such a heavy car.

I had my own (Excess and SLI) insurance through Questor and they state that it covers a car value up to £50,000 (I think) the value of a Charger is US$26,000.

My girlfriend talked me out of hiring a Mustang in the US and to this day I still feel sad about it, especially as the guy from the hire place picked us up in one and I got to see how awesome it was. Don't do that to your husband, let him get the manly car.

Go for the Charger! Everytime! Failing that, just go as big as you can get - petrol is so cheap over there its barely a concern and if you're driving a lot of miles then bigger is better, especially when you consider the size of some of the other stuff on the roads over there.

My wife and I drove from Chicago to LA over the course of 3 weeks (following the old route 66 where it still exists), did around 3,500 miles all in (and got married in Vegas...) and we had one of these:

A Nissan Xterra, similar sort of size to a Pathfinder over here - a fairly large vehicle on UK roads, over there it was lost among the frankly insanely sized trucks and jeeps. Certainly wouldn't have wanted anything smaller when wrestling with the trucks on the LA freeways!

You'll have an awesome time though, it was amazing when we went.
