fake nikes

Hi all, my wife unwittingly bought a pair of trainers from thenikeairmax-dot-com.
Paid £58 by debit card.
When they eventually turned up from hong kong, they were the wrong size.
Im guessing theyre fakes, although they look ok to me.

Any ideas where to take it from here, just chalk it down to experience?

cheers

They will certainly be fakes. You could try a chargeback on your credit card but as they're under £100 you might struggle with that, and you may also need proof of their being fakes from a reputable place.

There isn't a £100 minimum for a credit card chargeback. This figure is only relevant for "Sect 75" claims, so there no harm in contacting your card issuer and asking how to proceed with a chargeback.

Might be worth a quick call to Nike UK as well

Tell them about the website and they may take steps to have it shut down if they are fakes.

I'm really not sure of Hong Kong law, but counterfeit goods may be legal, state-sanctioned, de-criminalised or the authorities may just turn a blind eye.

You were lucky that they made it through Customs - they often seize counterfeit goods and destroy them as it was probably illegal for you to import them.

In any case, I doubt there's much you can do other than ask for a refund and hope that the shop agrees. I don't imagine that your bank will want to pay for them (although you can always ask for a chargeback and see what they say!)

And there's probably nothing you can do to stop other people buying counterfeit goods as the shop may not be doing anything illegal... and even if they are, counterfeits are rife in Hong Kong and China.

There are bargains to be had from Hong Kong & China, but unless you are certain, assume that any brand names are fake and specifications that are hard to measure (i.e. battery capacities in mAh) will be exaggerated. Also beware of electrical equipment as it often falls below minimum EU standards.

Sorry - this probably isn't much help, but I hope you get your money back somehow...

Not CC, pretty much screwed. Buying from hong kong..alarm bells should have been ringing. Your bank will pass responsibility to you too.

Tried emailing them again, also emailed nike.

incidentally, the gmail address that the parcel tracking details were sent from was something like CHEAPUGGCHEAPUGG@gmail. com

I wouldn't assume they are fake just because they are from Hong Kong

I would assume they are fake because of the site they bought from. Have a look at it - it looks just like all the other scam sites for similar goods.

Possibly. But it's still possible to get money back on debit cards. If the card's Visa you can ask the bank to do a chargeback. I'd certainly give it a go.

A good friend of mine is a shoe addict (the Imelda Marcos of Nike in fact lol), anyway, he rather stupidly took a chance on a pair of Hong Kong Nike's which were (to him) obviously fake when they arrived. To me, I'd never have known the difference, but he banged in a Paypal claim and seller refunded without asking for the shoes back, so my friend gave them to my son.

My son wore and wore them and will testify now that they were the best pair of Skate trainers he ever owned, wiping the floor with his very expensive Vans, Etnies and DC's. They never wore out. Absolutely brilliant shoe, yet completely fake.
