Hi All,
Looking to try and get away to Turkey early May. Was looking at greece but now thinking Turkey!!!
Any advice on the weather and weather Dalaman or Antalya would be the best for a couple, late thirties not really into clubbing etc?
Any places people can recommend to visit while we are there?
Thanks.

Just been to Antalya. Airport 10Km out of town.
Really enjoyed it, vibrant, and lots of day trips easy to do either organised or d-i-y. The extensive seafront, and marina area are in great locations, with lovely views.
Stayed in the old town of Kaleici, full of old Ottoman hotels and guest houses.
Suggest you have a good look at the discussion forum on Trip Advisor for hotel ideas, as most folk for some reason prefer the AI hotels at Lara Beach about 10km east out of town (well served by dolmus (mini-bus)).
Turkey is a fantastic destination, particularly if you are prepared to venture out a bit.0 -
I am particularly bias to the Dalaman area of Turkey, although have visited Antalya.
Own a property in Fethiye, which is about 50 minutes from Dalaman airport. The area in and around the Fethiye are has some beautiful scenery, lovely beaches (including Olu Deniz - blue lagoon).
The weather on the Dalaman coastal side tends to be warmer in general than Antalya.
So many places to visit, fab boat trips, great places for walks. Have a look at Trip Advisor and gofethiye.com, which gives numerous ideas.
Wherever you go in Turkey you are ensured of a very warm welcome and a great holiday.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -

Thank you. Is the Blue lagoon beach easy to get to from most areas in them two resorts?0 -
Olu Deniz is a 10 minute dolmus ride from Fethiye. On route from Fethiye is Ovacik and Hisaronu (clubbing area, great in day but comes very much alive at night).
I wouldn't suggest staying in Olu Deniz, as the Blue Lagoon commands higher prices both for hotels and restaurants, so staying a few miles away is more cost effective.
If you are staying in this area for any length of time, a trip to Kaya Village is a must. See the above mentioned website for ideas.
Great private boat trips from Fethiye Harbour and water taxi rides to nearby Calis Beach (typically English), doesn't appeal to us, but each to their own.
Most hotels in the surrounding area provide a free dolmus to the beach daily.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -

I'm looking forward to your bias working on me;)
Trouble with Turkey is there are so many fabulous destinations you can spend years seeking them all out.
In the last 18 months we've visited Istanbul (3 times - Awesome city), Ankara (Ataturk's Mausoleum is fantastic), Cappadocia (wow, the smile never left our faces!), and the Antalya and Alanya areas. The only thing I don't like about some of the coastal areas is the relentless over development with all these impersonal mega all-inclusive resorts.Turkishdreamer wrote: »Wherever you go in Turkey you are ensured of a very warm welcome and a great holiday.
Spot-on. We don't know what to do next. Visit the Dalaman and Bodrum areas, or be a bit more adventurous and travel further east and inland.0 -

When we were looking to buy in Turkey we spent 3 years travelling around, started in the Fethiye area, went to Antalya area and then to Bodrum. Ended up where we started and settled on there.
Bodrum was not for us. Very commercial and rather a large number of certain foreign visitors.
The Dalaman area, in particular Fethiye is very raerly crowded, not overpriced and the locals are so friendly. If you want quiet areas and little local areas to visit and eat in they are there and still authentic and on Turkish pricing.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -
I agree. I would fly into Dalaman and look at the areas around Fethiyetravelover0

Stand out a bit don't they!? Even the Germans have moved on from some places.
Went to a place called Kemer, 45 Km west of Antalya. Lovely area with jaw-dropping scenery, but has been turned into a man-made environmental disaster. Ditto with much of the coastline between Side and Alanya. We did like Alanya though, and could quite happily set up shop there for a while.
From what you've said Fethiye sounds ideal. Any recommendations for winter rentals (1 bedroom apartment for 3 months), but not at the rates that expats think they can command?0 -

If you want to PM me, I am going out at the end of the month for 10 days, I will put some feelers out for you. My daughter's boyfriend is Turkish and has lots of contacts in and around Fethiye.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -

If you like Blackpool with sun, neon and non stop loud music and drunken brits, then go for Ovacik and Hisaronu, you won't be disappointed. Marmaris and Bodrum, pretty much the same.
I would recommend Kalkan, thats nice, laid back but enough there, google Kalkan, fly into Dalaman0
