Leaving Talk Talk

Hi everyone

I am desperate to leave talk talk for various reasons, but have found out that when switching to certain providers I would have to pay a new connection charge. This is because talk talk disconnect you from a BT line and put you on theirs, to prevent automatic switch overs to other ISP's.

I was originally with tiscali and never had any problems. I paid the connection charge upon joining them as there was no phone line in my property, and BT came out to connect me up. Fine.

Then talk talk bought out tiscali, and as I've already said they disconnect you from a BT line. So now I would have to pay a connection charge of £112 if I leave to get my line reconnected with new ISP.

Does anyone know if I could get talk talk to reconnect the BT line or pay the new connection fee, as I didn't ask them to disconnect me, I didn't even ask to join them, they just bought out tiscali who I was originally with!

I do know that I can switch to BT with no charge but they don't have a good offer at the moment. I would like to go to Orange as they have a good deal on but have phoned them and they cant even connect me at all because I have a talk talk line!

Thanks in advance for any info.

If you are on a TT LLU'd line then your only option is to go back to BT on a 'return to donor'. This is free, but requires you to take a 12m line rental contract with them. Once your line is back with BT you can apply for your choice of broadband supplier.
The only supplier who may be able to do an LLU to LLU is Sky (if they are LLU on your exchange).
Orange are one of the worst rated providers around. Do an exchange search on https://www.samknows and see what your other LLU options are.

Which is probably exactly what you'd be saying about Talk Talk if you weren't already with them.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
