My supplier has been changed without my consent

I got a letter today from British Gas saying they were sorry I was leaving them etc
Thing is I havent switched supplier! I called them and they said that the switch over will be complete in 2 days, they said I must have agreed to it. Finally convinced them that I hadn't and they said they will get the account back but in the meantime continue to top up the meter as usual.
How can my account have been changed by someone else? How do I find out who the account is now with?
Can anyone help?

It will be done as a et, carry on using the suppliers card. Have you not got any mail from the other supplier?0

No letters from any other suppliers. I called BG last night and they said its being switched to Scottish Power and will be completed tomorrow. They said they dont know why its happened.
What does et mean?0 -
ET = Erroneous Transfer.
Sometimes happens when a salesman forges your signature!!!!
However it can happen if someone copies down the wrong meter serial number.0 -
Hi CraftMonkey
An Erroneous Transfer is when a customer's gas or electricity is changed to another supplier without their permission. One of the main reasons for this happening is when the gas or electricity supply details are incorrect on the national database. For example, if you live at 30 Park Lane yet the electricity database holds your meter details against 32 Park Lane, your electricity supply would change if the occupants at No. 32 made an application to transfer to another supplier. It is only when you receive notification that you are transferring supplier that this is normally highlighted.
I would recommend speaking to British Gas and asking them to check that your gas/electricity supply details are correct on all databases, making sure that your address is recorded correctly and that your meter serial numbers all match up. Any discrepancies with the supply details should be corrected to ensure you do not have any future erroneous transfers.
I hope this information has been helpful.
Kind Regards
