Sending a landlord a letter by post - tracking info?

I need to send a letter to my LL requesting confirmation that my deposit has been protected and various other matters which he has not dealt with. What I need to know is, what is the best way to send this letter so that, for legal reasons should they arise, I can show either the court or the TDS that I have requested confirmation of tenancy deposit protection and several other pressing matters? In my area recorded delivery is pretty much useless as the amount of times I have received "recorded delivery" items where the postman hasn't bothered to get my signature, so I am not sure about using it. Then again, next day delivery will cost £5 at the cheapest. Would a certificate of posting (with the postcode noted) be evidence enough for a court if I need to go to court to get my deposit back? Can anyone suggest what is best?

DO NOT send any important correspondence to landlords by Recorded Delivery! Ever.

Send two copies of the same letter from two different Post Offices by First Class Post retaining proof of postage. A court could agree that one letter sent could have been "lost" by the Post Office but the chances of two copies of the same letter are so unlikely as to be negligible.

Usually, what is recommended is first class post from two different post offices with certificate of posting from each. Doesn't give the LL a chance to refuse delivery (which a signed-for letter does), and a judge is unlikely to accept that both letters went astray.

Edit: beaten to it by B&T again!!

Send two separate (but identical) letters from two different post offices, by first class post, and obtaining proof of postage (free) from the person behind the counter.

This will stand up in Court/TDS/wherever - it is highly unlikely for ONE letter to go missing, and therefore even less likely for TWO letters sent from TWO places to disappear.

Don't sent by recorded or special because the person it's intended for may not accept delivery or go to the sorting office to collect it.
