I've just started to play the guitar on an old classical one that my mum had but the neck is too big for my fingers and I'm trying to play chords not classical... Also does anyone know if necks on normal guitars are thinner than classical ones?
So I'm looking for a new guitar, I don't mind second hand but as long as it's a good quality make... I'm 16 so I don't have much money to spend, I can afford up to about £90...
I think I want either an acoustic or an electro-acoustic (can anyone offer any advice here?) My dad told me that yamaha were the best but can anyone offer a second opinion here?
Thank you in advance

Steel string guitars have a thinner neck than gut string guitars. Yamaha are fairly good but not the best. Try Ebay I got a lovely ovation electro-acoustic for £80 lovely tone. take your time as if you do not get a nice one you will always wish you had waited. Go to a music shop and just try some to get an idea of what sound you like and also feel. The measure of love is love without measure0

My advice is go for the best you can afford, yamaha are good guitars but a decent one costs from about 150. I started on a brunswick but i now play a martin which was 1500. Lets just say the tone gets better the more you pay and you are rewarded as the playability is better too.0

At that price I would look for a second hand Walden, washburn or Tanglewood.:j

I bought my first ever electric guitar the other day. I've always wanted to learn so after a lot of research took the plunge, but since I have a terrible musical ear and no c-ordinaton or sense of timing, I selected a relativley cheap guitar which is a budget version of one of the best brands, best of all it is on sale at argos. I have found it really easy to get to grips with and look forward to playing it each evening.

save up an extra few pounds and go for a vintage V300 accoustic guitar -check out the reviews on google -it's a great guitar to learn on0

I'd avoid Ebay or any online seller. You need hands-on before buying a guitar. Take someone who can play along to the shop with you. Where are you? - perhaps someone could recommend a local shop?0

just been looking through amazon and this one seems a real bargain as a entry level guitar. my son plays electric guitar (i used to do ). i would recommend going for the best you can afford. but at the same time there is no need to spend a lot if you are beginning. here's the link to the one i saw on amazon. there ar a few others. they sell these at musicroom.com who have a shop in leeds but may have some other high street branches.

hope that helpsdon't get downhearted if you don't win today-you may win tomorrow :cool:0 -
Thanks again for everyone who's taken their time to reply...
I was browsing through Gumtree last night when I found a Yamaha acoustic F370 guitar going for £60 which is brand new and in my area (Barnet/Enfield in London). On DigitalVillage it goes for £139 and although its very basic, seems good for me until I get good enough to necesitate me buying a better one (or an electro acoustic)
Does anyone have this guitar? Or a similar one?
And also this sounds too good to be true doesn't it? Or am I being sceptical?
I tried the trick it needs to be 100% brand new because I'm buying it as a birthday present for my sister and he came back saying that it was 100% brand new so I'm inclined to believe him.
Thanks again to anyone who's looked stuff up for meI'll let you know how it goes

Yamahas are generally quite good - I've heard several recommendations and no complaints about them. An F370 at £60 seems very cheap; a real bargain if it's in good condition. Take someone with you to check it over.0
