You really need a specialist laptop repair service. Most PC shops won't be able to do it in-house-they'll simply send it on to a specialist, which you can do yourself without paying a middleman.
Many thanks Macman, after looking through yell.com and google I am looking at this company or this one. I will prob contact the first one in the first instance as it looks a little more professional and the price is listed.
Shall let you know how I get on

£70 to repair a power jack?, i that a quarter of a cost of a new one? Perhaps I'm too moneysaving?0

The power jack costs a few pence, but stripping a laptop down to reach it can easily involve a couple of hours work, hence the high cost. Lots of places in London and the S.E. will charge £100+.No free lunch, and no free laptop

There used to be someone on Ebay advertising a service for £40-ish OTTOMH including the socket and return delivery.0

Thanks Sharkie, I understand what you mean and I would love a new one. I have actually found one which has better spec and is only £200 however I thought it maybe easier/cheaper to repair this one. However after recieving a reply from a company it will take up to 5 days and cost £80 which is a bit much. I think I may revert to Flash's suggestion and sell this one as faulty on ebay and see if I can recoup some costs.
So my next question is how can I remove all my personal data on this current laptop. I am more interested in emails which may have filtered into outlook (although I haven't set uup outlook on this lappy).
Many thanks

Thanks Browntoa, it certainly has a DVD factory reset disk, however I don't have an external DVD drive. Can I put it onto a pen drive or external hard drive and run it from there? (I can transfer it on my main pc) Or do I need an external DVD drive?0 -
there are ways to do it from USB but suspect its out of your techinical expertise
