Claimimg back the £12 credit card charges

Hi money savers

I apologise if this question has been asked before. I know i can put in a complaint to claim back all credit card charges over £12, but what about the £12 charges for going overlimit and the ones for late payment???? If a court has ruled that £12 is ok, is it worth complaining??
I am with Capital One. Thanks very much people xxx :money:

No court has ever ruled that the £12 charges are ok.

You can claim the lot and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I would suggest you read the MSE guide to reclaiming credit card charges.

In it there is advice on how much to claim for, and advice as to what to do with the range of possible responses you will receive. :)

Whilst no court has ever ruled the £12 charges by Capital One are ok, no court has ever ruled them unfair either ;)

Yes claim them all back - the banks tend to use this as a first offer, i.e. they will offer to refund all the charges over £12 but on all mine I've written to them refusing this and asking for all of them and have got it. No court has ever said the £12 is fair, in the oft report it mentioned anything over £12 would be considered unfair but also said that this didn't mean it was saying charges should be set at £12 and that any charge should be a reasonable estimate of admin costs.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. All my charges are set at £12, none are over, but I will have a go at claiming them back now any way. Cheers people!

Last month I sent a letter asking RBS to refund £168 of £12 charges from my MINT card (which is closed) from 2009, got a first letter saying no and then wrote back with my sob story and got offered £100 but was told this was the only offer and if not I would have to go to the ombudsman. I accepted!

    Good Luck!
