Switching suppliers

I was on a monthly pay at my last flat with SE. When I moved it had a electric key with British Gas, I contact SE who switched it to them and advised that when the final bill claimed by D/D that they could come and change the metre to a monthly one and wouldn't charge. They are now telling me that there is no record of the conversation and that I have to pay £52 if I want to switch it. Which I'm reluctant to pay to them now and would probably perfer to pay some one else.

I currently spend about £40 a week on the electric key. There is no Gas supply so the heating and water are all done through the electric.

My question is who are generally the best/cheapest at the moment to go with?
