Open packet and tip them in the bin. You do not have to suffer sprouts.

I prepared my sprouts this am. I soak the prepared sprouts in salt water for a while then i dry them and put in a plastic bag in the fridge and they will be fine until xmas day.

I have also done the same thing this am with my cabbage and cauliflower. I have peeled my spuds ready for roasting and they will stay in cold water in my fridge (i will change the cold water tomorrow).

Things like this help you to do less on xmas day and enjoy it more.

  • Sorry to jump in on your thread, but please can I ask the sprout experts a question?

I blanched and froze my sprouts ready for Christmas, but I had a few for dinner the other day and they tasted really strong. Is there a top tip to calm them down a bit please?

I assume that is the variety you bought...maybe toss in garlic butter to hide the taste?

Do you mean in a sprouty way or in a bitter way? :D:o

If they're strong in a bitter way, try cooking them for a shorter time and add salt and butter.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Well, as you can see you either love them or hate them. I like them so on christmas eve I take off the outer leaves as someone said but I then leave them in a saucepan full of cold water. No need to put them in the fridge, I doubt they have ever seen a fridge as it is. I do the same with parsnips and potatoes.
  • I would suggest for a more ethical Christmas the sprouts would taste better if you placed them whole into your compost heap and used the resulting compost 6 months later to put onto your veg bed to help grow something tasty:beer:
    How about carrots ?
  • I LOVE sprouts, remove the brown bits of stalks and outer very dark leaves then steam for 6-7 minutes. I do not like them al dente-they need to be cooked but not soggy, a sharp knife should go through easily. yum can't wait for sprouts!
