Quick question on cooking sprouts....
Comments

Well there was a time (some time back) where I challenged myself to try one new food a month, if I start that up again or if I'm feeling especially brave, I might try it....not sure what the OH will think though!

Hi newlywed,
I love sprouts but I can't stand them mushy either. I steam them on the hob, for about 10 minutes.
There are some good sprout recipes on this older thread:
spruce up your sprouts

Thanks. Think I'll aim for the 8-10 minute mark and check them.

Take off the tough outer leaves and if the bottoms are browned, trim the brown bit off - then cut a cross in the bottoms and you're ready to steam. Lovely tossed in garlic butter xJune Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

You'll be fine preparing them on Christmas Eve. Lots of people do that to get a bit ahead of themselves on the day.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
I will be doing mine on Christmas Eve night, but will put the prepared spruts into a bowl of cold water (just in case there are any dead bugs) and then drain and put into the fridge veg box.
I will boil to cook, and may then toss in butter and season before serving. Sompe people cook up some pancetta or bacon, chop finely and then mix that in too.Hoping this year is better than the last.
