A lot of stuff involved in "doing up" does not add value to a house and is only worth anything to the person who did it, with the cost spread over time... so I'm afraid that unless yu have done something like extend, it was pretty much wasted... so the offer sounds reasonable in this market (without knowing your exact details of course). My neighbours house just sold for £180, bought for £187 3 or 4 years ago, and it's a 'value' area (nice area, but with a lot of ex-council places) it's less expensive than the neighbouring popular area (in a steady part of the country).
