buildings insurance policy question

Im just checking the building insurance policy from the quote we have been given but am confused by this statement - can anyone help?...it says it covers subsidence or heave but then it says it doesn't cover loss or damage caused by structural changes to your home - so what's the difference?

I'm sure someone will correct me on this, but to my mind, it says it will cover you for structural damage caused to the house by subsidence, but not to any that might arise from changes you make yourself to the structure, e.g. taking down a wall to make an open-plan space, and the house ends up falling down because it was actually load-bearing (although I would hope you use a smarter builder than that!!)

for example - if a builder removed a supporting wall and then used joists that were done too tightly - it caused cracks - then this would not be covered, i presume

this actually happened when my parents had their conservatory built - luckily surveyor confirmed all ok

The most common bit under this exclusion is settlement on new builds but the other examples are also under it
