Faulty XBox - can I exchange within 30 days?

I know, I know, I'm being a lazy cow for not searching myself, however, my son's XBox has developed a fault after 10 days of use. The XBox itself is fine but the headset isn't working properly, my son can hear his pals but they can't hear him.

I bought it from Dixons (online with credit card). As it's developed a fault within 30 days, can I ask for a replacement there and then? I can do without the 'we'll have to send it away to rectify the problem' scenario.

Cheers, Birdy (lazy moo)

been a while but im sure you have to configure the headset once you plug it in.

I had to do it with my Turtle beach headset.

If he puts his machine on - Hit middle button and settings then preferences then voice. if you alter the settings there it should be fine.

Other than that im not sure i changed away from the standard xbox headset cause its rubbish.

    Hope you get it fixed.

This is what DSR is for, you have now had it 10 days so are outside the DSR limit. You can under their own T&C's send it back within 21 days as a faulty product though, for a replacement or refund. They have the right to inspect it to verify the fault.

    Unsure what DSR is?

I assumed I could go to the nearest Dixons store to ask for a replacement regardless of the fact that I bought online. I would take all my paperwork with me. Is that not correct?

If you googled DSR, you would find this...

    Dixons stores... are there any?

Before you go rushing back with the Xbox, did the microphone ever work properly?

If not then it is likely to be a settings issue as stated above or just a defective microphone.

I had somehow switched off the bluetooth settings on my PS3 and ended up buying another earpiece (which didn't work either, of course) before I discovered the problem....

Thanks Enfieldian, I told my son to do as Gnaril stated, thanks also to Gnaril, but to no avail, it hasn't changed anything.

The microphone's worked perfectly up until last night, he's had great fun chatting with his mates! Can't understand why it's suddenly developed this fault. As I said, you can hear his pals perfectly, (sometimes in the next room, depending on how the game's going!)

I'm just within the 21 day policy so have emailed Dixons and will await their reply.

    Cheers, Birdy

BTW - I didn't google DSR 'coz, as I said earlier, I'm a lazy moo...

Just wanted to give you an update and say that the headset is now working!

Yes, the following morning, my son tried it again and, lo and behold, it worked perfectly. Still have no idea why it didn't work that evening!

In the meantime, Dixons have come back to me to say that in store exchanges are only at the managers discretion. Alternatively, I can contact DHL who will arrange for collection of the 'faulty' Xbox and, once received, will send me out a replacement. Obviously, I be won't going down that route now.

Thanks for your advice anyway. Meanwhile, if you've got any expertise on washing machines, please read my thread on my now faulty washing machine. :D Honestly, it never rains but it pours...
