Government’s proposal to introduce road pricing

The government’s proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.

The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver.

A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect an NIP with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website:

It all looks very scary. Do you have a source for the costs you are mentioning?
    Can I help?

    >It all looks very scary.<

It certainly is. You can just see that for 'anti-fraud' purposes, you will need to swipe your government issued biometric ID card into the vehicle tracking system before the car will start-up.

As you drive about, the national network of ANPR cameras will pick you up and use the 2 year database of traffic movements to see if your journey is 'unusual' given past patterns of where you go to.

If the database throws an alert, you'll be stopped by the Police and asked to explain your journey and confirm your biometric card ID by placing your fingers on their radio-linked electronic scanner 'Lantern' to check you're not on the 'potentially dangerous person' list and run a pan-European check through the Schengen Information System database.

A record of stop will be stored in the police intelligence database 'IMPACT'.

You may then go on your way.
  • Does anyone know if motorbikes will be included in this scheme?

If the costs are anything like what the BBC report I won't be able to afford to go to work any more. If bikes were excluded then that might be an option though on my route to work I wouldn't fancy my chances of surviving too long if I did. There is no public transport alternative for my 70 mile round trip and there's very little work near home.
