Google problem or just a scam?

Options
Just had a phone call from a guy with a very strong foreign accent. Said he was from Google and I had dodgy files on my computer. I thought he might be the dodgy one, so put the phone down quick! Has anyone else had similar call?

Google is a new one. It's usually Microsoft or "your ISP".

A post like yours appears on this or the internet board just about every week.

LOL, I can just imagine you saying "I think you're the dodgy one" and hanging up. Very funny :) And yes, you were correct.

When my in-laws got this scam while I was over once (the Microsoft one), I strung them along enough to realise that they'd not actually gotten any real information. Just enough to know name, address and telephone number - and an assumption that most people use Windows (or google in your case).

Why would Google care if you have "dodgy files" on your computer? And how would they know? And how would they have got your phone number? Seriously... just think about it for a second.
