JVC digital video camera

I have a JVC GR-D33EK digital video camera, which I have had a few years, up until about 2 years ago it worked fine then developed a problem with the LCD and the viewfinder. Then worked again up until yesterday. The LCD works for playback of recorded material, but the LCD and viewfinder are just blank/black when trying to record. I have emailed JVC and they have replied "From the information you have given it would appear that your camcorder may be eligible for a free repair. For more details please call us on 0845 310 8000 to discuss the matter further." Is it worth me ringing or maybe it be some kind of "con" into me purchasing a new camera, or a costly repair?

Any input appreciated.

Yes there was a known fault a few years ago where the camera would think it has the lens cap on thus not displaying a picture on the LCD screen.

I rang them and a courier will pick up the camera this Wednesday and if it is a CCD sensor problem it will be fixed for free, however if any other faults are present the repair agent will ring me with an estimate to fix it.

Looks like they're honouring a very old fault. Top marks to JVC!
