Hi,

sorry to bother you, but i have a noob question concerning DCAs.

Today, my partner got a letter from “Wescot Credit Service ltd” asking to get in touch by phone by the 17/03 latest.
It does not state what it is all about, just asking to give a call “concerning an urgent matter”. We had to google Wescot in order to find out that they are a DCA.
My partner has a very unusual name but she is addressed correctly. She has never had any debs in the UK (she is only living here for 3 years now), no credit card…
What would you recommend? Callign them, writing a letter asking what this is all about or just ignoring it?
Thanks for your advice.

A few things you can do.
Ignore it as its a fishing trip.
Wait for the next letter.
Send letter stating that you do not acknowledge any debt.
Your chioce as how what direction you do, personally i would ignore it.
What to do in the meantime, check your credit file to see if any defaults on you r credit report.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.
PRESS THANKS

Hi again,
now it gets complicated... any help is highly appreciated!
We just checked expedian and there are 2 defaults in her name.
We moved together in February 2010, prior to that she lived in a shared flat in London. There are two defaults from mail order businesses dating form April 2010 for £252 and £269 in her name. The birthday given is incorrect!
At this time we lived together and she did not live at the address in London.
What is the correct course of action? Police?
We are in this situation the first time - please help!
Thak you in advance!

Is it Wescot who put these defaults on, or the clients (whoever they are)?
Going by what I'm reading, they've registered defaults on the wrong person - and that is defamation.
Whoever has logged these defaults must remove them as this is false, damaging information - and she could take action against them if they don't.0 -
Thanks! :j
They are put in by the mailorder businesses:
- CANDID COLLECTION LTD (SIMPLY BE)
- SANDER & KAY LTD (T/A JACAMO)
What steps to take? Shall we inform the police to get a reference number?
Cheers

Send the prove-it letter because the debt is in dispute. That means she's not sure if she really owes it, which going by what you've said is how it is.
Have a read of The Golden Rule for why exactly you should not call them. Never mind what they said about calling by 17th, they are using scare, it's a favourite tactic of DCA's. There is no need at all to panic or rush, it's perfectly acceptable to take 10-14 days to reply in writing.I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)
As of the last count I have cleared [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt.

Hi again,
just as a update:
1) We called Wescot back (I know... not recommended) - and failed the security check due to the wrong DOB... explained everyrthing, received one letter a week later saying that they will investigate with their customer... never heard of them again.
2) We mailed CANDID COLLECTION LTD (SIMPLY BE) and SANDER & KAY LTD (T/A JACAMO), which turned out to be the same company. They requested one prove in the form of bank statements or utility bills that she didn't live at this address in April 2010. Sent it of, nothing happened... send it again 2 weeks later... and within 3 days the defaults disappeared and we got a "we are sorry" letter.
Hope this was the last I heard about this one...
Thanks to all of you for your help!
Cheers

Good morning,
next installment of the neverending story with JD Williams (which is the parent company of Jacomo and Candid) and Wescot.
So - on the 10/05.2011 we received a letter from JD Williams, dating to the 29/04/2011:
We are sorry... blablabla... , then"All personal details used in relation with the above account will now be removed. [...] Any information this account has generated on your credit file will be removed and this incident will not longer have any effect on it. Please accept our apologies for and inconvenience or upset caused"
blablala... then:"We have closed the debt on our computer system and returned the account to our client. No further action will be taken by Wescot Credit Services Ltd to recover the above amount"
Yesterday we got again a letter from Wescot asking to contact them - and when checking experian, the 2 defaults put on there by JD Williams have reappeared (with the same default date).
Next letter is already in the making - I will keep you posted...
Just unbelievable...
Cheers

I'd be starting to inform these companies that complaints are on their way to FOS, OFT and Trading Standards about the way they are handling this.0
