Hi all. I hope someone can help ease my mind. Basically my application for jsa has been declined due to not enough ni contributions. For the two tax years in question I earned circa 18k each so would have thought this would be enough? I have proof of this which I am taking to my appointment tomorrow so should this be sorted quite simply? The employer that Issued the p45 and p60 I have are no longer solvent so I suspect that my contributions were never paid.

Well if the company never paid the NI contributions. Then surely you wouldn't have built up enough NI over the last 2 years?0

Im sorry I don't quite understand what you mean? The dwp have said I don't have enough but I worked continuously for the two years in question and my employer deducted ni based on approx 36k over that time which should surely make me legible to claim?0

Have you checked your NI number on the payslips/P60, you can get a statement of NI contributions...it may be an admin error or it could be, as you eluded to, that the employer deducted it but did not pass it on0

Thanks for your help. Yep my NINO is correct on all docs which is why I think there was an error,
Do you know what will happen if this is the case?
Surely its not my responsibility to make sure my employer is actually paying the NI which is being deducted from me each month!?0 -
Sadly, it is. If they've not been paying your NI then you don't have enough contributions.0

If you have P60s and P45s for the two tax years in question (remember thats April to March) then show these to the Jobcentre, get them to photocopy them (don't give the originals) and get them to pass them to the Benefit Centre. If from these documents it shows you've paid what you need to qualify then you will get JSA Contributory benefit. You should also contact HMRC and inform them of the issue."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Really? I'm not being awkward but I honestly thought if it was showing as a deduction at the correct amount then I wouldn't have to do anything further.
So for future employment should I be checking my records every year or something?I don't want to end up getting stung like this again.0 -

The NI contact number is on this link.
I've had to call them 3 or 4 times over the past week and each time they have been extremely helpful.
Good luck0
