cat miaowing

Hi can anyone help. One of our male kittens started miaowing strangely last evening and was trying to get out of the windows and doors even though he doesn't like to go out much at night. He seemed quite frantic to go out. As he is now 7 months old I was wondering if he was coming into season and that is why he is acting strangely.

I am not sure whether to have him and the other male neutered - although I have had the female one spayed.

Does his behaviour sound like a typical male kitten wanting to mate?

Are you 100% sure this is a male cat?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

He very well maybe wanting to go out and sow his oats! He is the right age for it.

I would have them castrated anyway, unless there is a good reason not to?

I am fairly sure it is a male cat Raksha - I think I saw its 'equipment' the other day!:D

There may be a female cat in the area who is in season and he is desperately trying to get at her.

Is there any particular reason why your male cat has not been neutered? Is he a pedigree that you intend to breed from? If not, get him sorted and he'll behave in a more normal way and it will help him not to contribute to the number of unwanted kittens/cats in this country.

I had my male cat neutered as soon as I could and the only difference with him is he doesn't get into many fights and he's smaller than some of the tom cats I see about, other than that, he's a happy bunny!

Don't let him out, you don't want him coming home up the duff.

Thanks for that - I do live quite far out in the country but you're right there could be other cats about. I will get him and his brother 'done'!

Yes, please do get them "done"! The other worry is that male cats will travel miles to find a female in heat and they may not make it back home. They can also get into terrible scraps with other males over the ladies!

  • Might have spotted a mouse.

One of mine has been frantic to get out at night for some weeks, and he is an ageing neutered twit. Also saw him wallying around at the shed door about a fortnight ago and just thought he was attacking a spider.

I looked out through the kitchen window a couple of days ago to see something bouncing across the grass towards the shed.

Went to the nearest garden centre the very next day.

We relocated a rather shocked wood mouse from under the shed about half a mile down the road into some woods yesterday evening.

He didn't shout at the door once last night.

I would get them neutered anyway unless you want them spraying when another Tom comes by.
  • My 5 month female started crying and acting strangely yesterday too. Googled her behaviour and it does seem as though she is in season, we had booked her in next month to be neutered but have rang the vets today to get it brought forward to next week. Poor thing, I do feel sorry for her.
